Ruth Cele who was known as ‘Mamgo’, Ruth was born in Durban, 2 February 1939. Ruth attended school at Kay Maria, Clairwood Government Native School, Loram Secondary School and St Chads College where she obtained the then University J.C.

Ruth started acting at the age of 12. In 1968 she started doing Radio Drama and story telling and Radio Commercials. Her Acting experience blossomed from National TV multilingual to International Feature Film, and to name a few: Ifa lakwaMthethwa 1986, Undenzani Melwane 1987, Max 1988, Going Up 1989,  Hlala Kwabafileyo 1990 (Artes Awards), Sgudi’ is Snaysi 1992, African Skys 1993, Mtsamaye (Travel Documentary) 1994, Suburban Bliss (Artes Awards) 1995, Patron for Surf Drama Festival Theatre 1996, Panic Mechanic (Feature Film) 1997, Granny Muffin (Children) 1997, The Vet Christine (German ~ International) 1998, The Good Woman of Sharkville (Grahamstown Arts Festival 1999, Mr Bones (Feature Film) 2000, The Piano Player (International Feature Film) 2001 and I wish I was in Jail  (Feature Film) in 2005.

Ruth toured America and Canada with Zanendaba in 1992 for the World Wide Children’s Festival (Story Teller).

Ruth was involved in TV Commercials: 1994 Anadin, 1995 Cross and Blackwell Chakalaka, 1999 – 2002 Protea Furnitures x37, 2002 Road Shows for Industrial Theatre (Aids Awareness), 2004 Fire Awareness, and in 2005 Department of Agriculture and Environment.

She was a Performance Lecturer at Movietech Film & Television College, Durban South Africa until her death in December of 2010.
