MUT’s Circle of Excellence Awards where the Umlazi schools were recognised for their achievements

It’s a well know fact that South Africa’s education system is failing its learners when it comes to maths and science. Ranked 138 out of 140 countries in the 2015/2016 World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness report, there’s no getting away from the fact that our schools are in desperate need of help. Which is what makes the charitable work of 2014 eThekwini Living Legends, the Willowton Group, so important. Over the past few years the group have donated hundreds of thousands of Rands worth of science supplies to schools in under-resourced areas. Their most recent donation of science kits valued at R100 000 were donated to the four High Schools which received top marks in the Umlazi district – including Menzi High School, whose late principal, Mr Felix Mshololo, was also a past recipient of a Living Legend award. According to the Umlazi headmasters the science supplies donated by Willowton will prove to be a huge help – prior to the donation the schools had inadequate labs and were forced to take learners to other schools for practical activities.

A massive thank you to the Willowton Group for their ongoing commitment to the betterment of eThekwini and its people!
