Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma receiving the Gülen Peace Award

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission and 2015 eThekwini Living Legend, was recently presented with the Fethullah Gülen Peace and Dialogue Award. The awards are organised by the Turquoise Harmony Institute, a dialogue centre that aims to promote mutual understanding and exchange between people from different cultures and religions. The Gülen Peace Award is bestowed upon individuals or organisations that are seen to have made noteworthy contributions to dialogue, peace and harmony in their societies. Previous recipients of the award include Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Graça Machel.

In accepting the award, Dlamini-Zuma underlined the importance of women in peaceful dialogue: “Women must be at the center of dialogue because we are full of love and don’t become instruments in games of [political] power. We can dream of a new world. We can make it come true.”

Congratulations to Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and a massive thank you to her for the incredible work that she does in her role as African Union Chairperson.
