cityscapesposta4_566x800_453x640_301x425_300_wideTwo weeks ago we featured a TEDx video of 2014 eThekwini Living Legend, Jay Pather, where he talked about his love affair with public spaces. Cityscapes, originally conceived by Pather in 2002, saw dance performances appearing across the city of Durban, taking an art form that is normally restricted to theatres to the streets and the people who walk them. Since then various permutations of Cityscapes have been performed in Copenhagen, New York and Cape Town.

Cityscapes Re-routed takes place in Durban between the 16th June and the 11th July, with works choreographed by Pather and the Siwela Sonke Company. The dances, which are planned for the Workshop, the City Hall and Dairy Beach, promise to transform the centre of town, offering the public a bit of magic in the middle of their working day!
