Menzi high schoolWith learners set to write their final papers in just over a month’s time I’m sure that there are many matriculants who wish they had Felix Mshololo as their headmaster! When Mshololo first joined Menzi High School in 1990 the pass rate was a dismal 34%. With a 100% pass rate in 2010, 2012 and 2013, Menzi High School has received a number of awards and accolades – on the very same night that Mshololo was accepting his Living Legend Award, his Deputy, Muntu Ntombela, was across the road at the Hilton Hotel representing the school at the Circle of Excellence Awards. The Overall Best Matric Result Award went to Menzi High School, along with the top awards for Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting. And things don’t stop there – Mshololo was nominated as the Best Principal in the Kader Asmal Awards for KwaZulu-Natal in 2014.

And the thing that’s so incredible about this man is his ability to transfer his knowledge. In addition to the massive impact that he’s had on his own school, Mshololo has also managed to improve results at other under-performing high schools. In 2013 he helped Inwabi High School increase their pass rate from 20% to 79%, in addition to securing funding for maths and science from the private sector.

His energy seems boundless, as does his humility. What an inspiration Felix Mshololo is – a more worthy recipient of a Living legends Award, you will battle to find!
